KFC’s Fantasy MLS Midfielder picks – Week 3

Midfielders

As many of you may have started to notice, midfielders can provide a great source of points, even when they do not score or get an assist. It’s all about those key attacking (or defending) bonus points. Of course, goals and assists are nice too. Keep reading to see which players we like for week 3.

Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake) vs Colorado
Price: $8.5m
Owned by: 13.1%

Real Salt Lake had a disappointing, but close, game at DC last week. Their home game against Colorado should end differently. Beckerman is the standout midfielder for RSL over the past two weeks. In their victory against San Jose, his Key passes and crosses gained him an assist and RSL the win. In the loss to DC, he was able to pick up 3 defensive points. It is worth noting that Beckerman s a defensive midfielder but he has been earning more points than the more offensive Gil and Velasquez.

Graham Zusi (Kansas City) vs Chicago
Price: $9.7m
Owned by: 38.6 %

Surprisingly, Zusi did not get a goal or an assist last week but he was still able to pull down 8 points and make it onto the dream team. He is a prime example of how a defender can still have good returns through bonus attacking and defensive points (mostly attacking). This week SKC is playing the struggling Chicago at home. With Zusi leading the league in crosses and key passes, he looks good to be a key player in breaking down the Chicago defense.

Mike Magee (LA Galaxy) vs Chivas
Price: $8.3m
Owned by: 17.3%

Magee is coming back for his second game after a hat trick on opening week. It’s unlikely that we’ll see numbers like this again, but last year Magee only scored 8 goals. Perhaps he and some of the other LA midfielders (like Juninho) are going to get better numbers as they fill the Donovan and Beckham void. Their game against Chivas this week should give them another chance to add another win to their record.

These are my picks, if you think there should be more names on this list, please leave a comment or come to r/FantasyMLS and comment on the post. You can also leave a message on our Facebook page. Keep checking back for more updates through the week for other positions.
